What You'll Experience

Your adventure begins with a scenic 30-minute drive from Christchurch through some of the city's most prestigious suburbs before reaching the volcanic cliffs that make Christchurch one of New Zealand's premier climbing destinations.

Located on the summit of the ancient volcano that formed Banks Peninsula and Lyttelton Harbour, the area offers more than 2,000 established climbing routes, attracting climbers from around the world.

Upon arrival, your professional guide will introduce you to the climbing area and provide a comprehensive safety briefing. You'll learn the basics of climbing, including how to use the equipment, climbing techniques, and belaying—the method used to safely manage the climbing rope.

Once you're comfortable with the fundamentals, your guide will set up a series of climbs specifically chosen to suit your group's experience and ability. Whether you're climbing outdoors for the first time or already have experience, each route is designed to provide an enjoyable balance of challenge, safety, and achievement.

Throughout the experience, you'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding coastline, Lyttelton Harbour, Banks Peninsula, and, on clear days, the snow-capped Southern Alps.
